Hartford Community Chorus Presents Candlelight Concert

At this time of year, we light candles to celebrate the Light of the world. Candlelight brings light into darkness; it is a light that cannot be snuffed out, regardless of how deep the darkness. During the Advent season, a candle is lit each week, representing hope, peace, joy, and love. A menorah (with its nine celebratory candles of Hanukkah) commemorates the miracle of the oil: it lasted eight days in the ancient Temple, and the ninth candle, the highest and central candle (called the servant candle), reminds us that humans must still do their part. In the Good Book, we read, “The soul of man is the Lord’s candle”; the flame represents life's fragility and the soul's continuity. Candles and the sharing of “light” will be prevalent throughout the Chorus’ performance.

Throughout this concert, you will be invited to join The Hartford Community Chorus, celebrating in song, some of the richest carols of our culture. As you stand, please also lift your voice!
