The Schauer School of the Arts is in search of Director for our Schauer Youth String Orchestra beginning with our Winter/Spring 2021 Session and continuing beyond.


  • Create and implement a curriculum and repertoire that supports the SSA mission.

  • Facilitate weekly rehearsals and two annual student concerts (holiday and spring).

  • Build relationships with students, families, and Schauer Arts Center staff.

  • Create a classroom environment that is safe and open to all skill levels and interests.

  • Collaborate with Schauer Arts Center staff to plan and stage performances.

  • Participate in occasional community events and outreach opportunities.

  • Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and Education Coordinator.

  • Complete format student evaluations at the end of each Session.


  • The ability to maintain a consistent schedule once it's set in place.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years conducting and/or teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of music pedagogy, repertoire, terminology, and traditional skills/techniques.
  • The ability to adapt a traditional curriculum and mindset to a wide range of abilities and interests.
  • Communication skills that build healthy relationships between students, staff, and families.
  • Willingness to help advance Schauer Youth String Orchestra programming.
  • All candidates must agree to a background check. CPR certification is preferred.

Job Type: Part-Time (Hourly, Contracted Position)

Instructors are paid hourly for teaching hours and receive additional pay for non-teaching activities such as lesson planning, meetings, performances, and community events.


Start Date: Winter/Spring Session Begins January 14, 2020

Schedule: Availability on Wednesday evenings is preferred but negotiable.

The Schauer School of the Arts offers classes in circus arts, dance, music, theater, and visual art for all ages and abilities. Our staff is made up of experienced teaching artists and educators who understand the value of professional arts training for all regardless of one’s path in life.

Positions available for part-time experienced bartenders with flexible hours that encompass nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and have a minimum of 1 year of bartending experience. Qualifying candidates will be outgoing, courteous, positive, professional, and familiar with bartending in an upscale environment. Must have a City of Hartford bartender license.
