POSITION TITLE: Director of Development
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time, salaried, exempt, based on experience
Position Summary: Be part of the exciting world of the arts in a unique venue that hosts performances, a wide variety of classes in the arts, and rental spaces. This full-time position focuses on developing and implementing a donor cultivation, acquisition, and retention system. The Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing fund development efforts, including individual donors, corporate partners, grants, and fundraising event potential. Contacts will include written, phone, and face-to-face interaction with donors and sponsors and the development of new supporters through community engagement activities. The Director of Development is a primary advocate of the Schauer Center, attending networking activities and community events to engage new patrons and supporters.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop individual donors
- Maintains and develops corporate show sponsors
- Ensure that donors receive promised benefits and excellent customer service
- Lead the fundraising committee in special fundraising events
- Promote planned giving and endowment support
- Complete grant applications and follow up on required grant reporting
- Manage and maintain a donor database
- Coordinate outreach activities connected to performances
- Coordinate participation in community events to build visibility and engagement
- With the Executive Director, develop an annual budget of income and expenses in Fund Development
Work Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred plus 3 years relevant experience in non-profit fund development
- If no degree, 5+ years of relevant experience in non-profit fund development
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required; Microsoft Outlook experience preferred
- Familiarity with donor management software and experience in mastering specialized software programs is a plus.
- Experience in event planning
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects at once
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills— comfortable speaking one-on-one or in front of a group
- Flexibility for evenings and weekends for performances or community events as needed
- Enthusiasm and passion for the arts
Schedule: This a full-time, on-site that requires an eight-hour workday; however, as a salaried position, the Director of Development may need to work extended hours to meet the demands of the job at times.
Compensation: Full-time, salaried, exempt, based on experience.

POSITION TITLE: Tap/Jazz Dance Instructor
TYPE OF POSITION: Occasional part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Position Summary: As a Tap/Jazz Dance Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the dance skills of our students. Your responsibilities will include creating engaging lessons and lesson plans in tap and/or jazz dance for students aged 7-18, across varying skill levels. You will conduct weekly classes during the Winter/Spring School of the Arts session and organize a recital for all classes in May. Additionally, you will be responsible for completing student assessments at the end of the session.
Compensation/Benefits: $20-$25 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: TBD, weekday evenings based on instructor and studio availability
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years old with at least one year of tap and/or jazz dance teaching experience. Must be able to work flexible hours such as weekends, nights, and occasional holidays.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience working with youth in a classroom setting.
- Understanding and ability to demonstrate movements of tap and/or jazz dance safely and correctly.
- This position requires excellent attendance, dependability, flexibility, integrity, honesty, and motivated and dedicated behavior.

POSITION TITLE: Bartender
TYPE OF POSITION: Occasional part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Position Summary: Provide all services of the bar during theater performances and rental events (weddings, showers, business meetings). This includes set up, preparing and serving beverages, taking payment, managing customers and cleanup. Provide the best customer service while working as an ambassador for the Schauer Arts Center. This position is under the direction and supervision of the Rental Event Coordinator.
Compensation/Benefits: $15.00 per hour plus customer tips during performances. $10.00 per hour plus hosted gratuity tips during rental events (weddings, showers, business meetings).
Schedule: This position requires a flexible schedule of hours, primarily evening and weekend hours. The supervisor and employee will gauge what is reasonable and necessary, as the workload will vary. The schedule will include both performances and rental events.
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years old with at least one year of bartending experience. You must have a valid City of Hartford bartending license or be eligible to obtain one. Must be able to work flexible hours such as weekends, nights, and occasional holidays.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and experience in mixology, local and state alcohol laws, rules and regulations, math skills, making change, and using technology for cash and credit purchases. Ability to deal with underage guests requesting service and difficult or intoxicated guests. This position requires excellent attendance, dependability, flexibility, integrity, honesty, and motivated and dedicated behavior.
