POSITION TITLE: Theater Technical Director
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time, salaried
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Technical Director, Tech support staff
Position Summary: The TD successfully implements and supports all Schauer events and provides technical assistance to all users of the Schauer Center. This includes but is not limited to support for staging, lighting, sound, and rigging needs. This position requires a flexible schedule. Evening and weekend hours are required regularly. Work hours will vary according to activities scheduled at the Center.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage all technical aspects of performances and events, maintain equipment, order materials, and manage tech budget.
- Manage advancement of performances and hospitality commitments. Train and supervise all tech personnel.
- Assist and work with all facility renters and users. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the theater and stage.
- Work with the Facility Manager to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Schauer Arts Center.
- Act as liaison with local fire marshal and other relevant officials to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and statutes and ensure safety and security.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in technical theater and show production, with expertise/professional level knowledge of stage lighting, sound, rigging, stagecraft, production management, technical system operations, and upkeep.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to support renters, artists, production personnel, and internal staff.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to multi-task.
- Strong commitment to safe operational standards.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule over the course of the production calendar and year.
- 4-year degree in Technical Theater, related field, or equivalent experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Acceptable background check

POSITION TITLE: Box Office Assistant
TYPE OF POSITION: Part-time, non-exempt, hourly
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Office/Box Office Manager
Position Summary: The Box Office Assistant carries out ticket sales and other transactions in person and by phone and is a point of reference for inquiries about theater and School of the Arts activities at the Schauer Center. This part-time position requires a flexible schedule since evening and weekend hours are required. An individual with excellent customer service skills, who enjoys meeting lots of people and has a passion to support the arts, will be a great fit.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct transactions via phone and in person, including ticket sales, gift certificates, donations, and Schauer School of the Arts class registrations.
- Develop a working knowledge of the theater’s layout, including ADA seating and wheelchair access, specific locations of different seating sections and their relative prices, etc.
- Be up to date on Schauer Center’s events, website, services, and facilities in order to be able to respond knowledgeably and effectively to customer inquiries.
- Troubleshoot problems with online ticket sales, ticket program, and ticket printing (e.g. replacing ticket stock).
- Return phone messages in a timely manner.
- Provide excellent customer service; handle patron complaints/concerns while maintaining professionalism and a pleasant demeanor.
- Keep accurate records of all cash, check, and credit/debit card payments, balance individual cash drawer, and complete accounting reports when required.
- In absence of Box Office Manager:
a) Supervise WILL CALL volunteer prior to performances;
b) Print web sales, as needed;
c) Offer additional administrative/reception support, including answering the main phone line. - Filing, mailings, computer data entry, database maintenance, telephone calls, copying, cash handling, and general administrative/reception tasks as needed to assist staff members, as time allows.
Work Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Sales/customer service experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), email, and internet; familiarity with ticketing software or other specialized software a plus.
- Motivated, self-directed; strong administrative and communication skills.
- Teamwork, interpersonal skills, conflict/resolution, and the ability to develop good relationships with staff, volunteers, and patrons, working both as part of a team and independently.
- Enthusiasm and passion for the arts.
- Available to work evenings and weekends.
Hours include 2–3 days Monday-Friday, 11:30 am–5:00 pm, with additional evenings and weekends on a rotating basis, in conjunction with performances.

POSITION TITLE: Tap/Jazz Dance Instructor
TYPE OF POSITION: Occasional part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Position Summary: As a Tap/Jazz Dance Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the dance skills of our students. Your responsibilities will include creating engaging lessons and lesson plans in tap and/or jazz dance for students aged 7-18, across varying skill levels. You will conduct weekly classes during the Winter/Spring School of the Arts session and organize a recital for all classes in May. Additionally, you will be responsible for completing student assessments at the end of the session.
Compensation/Benefits: $20-$25 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: TBD, weekday evenings based on instructor and studio availability
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years old with at least one year of tap and/or jazz dance teaching experience. Must be able to work flexible hours such as weekends, nights, and occasional holidays.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience working with youth in a classroom setting.
- Understanding and ability to demonstrate movements of tap and/or jazz dance safely and correctly.
- This position requires excellent attendance, dependability, flexibility, integrity, honesty, and motivated and dedicated behavior.

POSITION TITLE: Bartender
TYPE OF POSITION: Occasional part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Position Summary: Provide all services of the bar during theater performances and rental events (weddings, showers, business meetings). This includes set up, preparing and serving beverages, taking payment, managing customers and cleanup. Provide the best customer service while working as an ambassador for the Schauer Arts Center. This position is under the direction and supervision of the Rental Event Coordinator.
Compensation/Benefits: $15.00 per hour plus customer tips during performances. $10.00 per hour plus hosted gratuity tips during rental events (weddings, showers, business meetings).
Schedule: This position requires a flexible schedule of hours, primarily evening and weekend hours. The supervisor and employee will gauge what is reasonable and necessary, as the workload will vary. The schedule will include both performances and rental events.
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years old with at least one year of bartending experience. You must have a valid City of Hartford bartending license or be eligible to obtain one. Must be able to work flexible hours such as weekends, nights, and occasional holidays.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and experience in mixology, local and state alcohol laws, rules and regulations, math skills, making change, and using technology for cash and credit purchases. Ability to deal with underage guests requesting service and difficult or intoxicated guests. This position requires excellent attendance, dependability, flexibility, integrity, honesty, and motivated and dedicated behavior.
