Chalk The State July 25–26

Chalk The State 2020

MAKE ART. HAVE FUN. SPREAD JOY. #CHALKTHESTATE #SCHAUERCENTER

Show people your creativity from anywhere!

The Schauer Arts Center has partnered with the Museum of Wisconsin ART (MOWA) to spread positive messages, inspire change, and create bright, joyful works of chalk art to share with friends, family, and neighbors. It is the perfect moment to bring the creative energy of Wisconsin to each and every neighborhood one sidewalk at a time. Besides being fun, it’s a reminder to us all that we’re in this together.

Who should participate?
EVERYONE — ALL AGES!

This is for all ages, all skill levels, totally inclusive, free-for-all explosion of creativity and expressivity.

When is the event?
During the weekend of July 25–26, we encourage families, adults, and kids to take to their sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots to create bright, joyful art, and spread positive messages to share with friends, family, and neighbors that remind us all
that even apart, we can share and enjoy art.

Is there a suggested theme?
Join the Schauer Arts Center by drawing what you love most in the arts—music, dance, theater, art, etc. or whatever inspires you. Be sure to post your art and tag the event and us on Facebook #ChalkTheState #SchauerCenter.

Are there any rules? YES! PLEASE CHALK RESPONSIBLY!

FOLLOW THE LAW. Check with your local authorities to find out if chalk art is permitted in your area.

CHALK ONLY ON YOUR PROPERTY. Be sure to get permission before chalking on any property that is not yours including neighboring sidewalks, and public property, or parking lots.

RESPECT YOUR NEIGHBORS. Consider others who will enjoy your art. If an 8-year old shouldn’t read it don’t write or draw it.

RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT. Use eco-friendly chalk or water-based tempera paints. Avoid chalking within 50-feet of water sources such as lakes, rivers, and streams.
